Hello Fellow Opponauts,
Sad news today. I went to get a quote from Milano’s Autobody, a bodyshop that’s both low-cost and high-quality, in Little Italy. They eye-balled and quoted me at least 700-1000 for PULLING THE BODY STRAIGHT. Then, whatever is needed for paint and prep-work.
Simply - this car has met the end of its life.
Good news from Alberta, however - a man named Hugh Logie, basing his operations in Cayley, Alberta, has offered to take this car from my hands and STRIP it to the bare bone and transplant EVERYTHING into a California shell. Thank you Hugh!
Here are SOME pictures of the damage, which I took today (a sunny day, perfect to highlight the damage). Click this

It’s tragic that this 505 had to die by collision; however, I’m happy to hear that your car will essentially be rebuilt, but to an even better standard with this new shell.
It’s like Gramps from MCM, you think it’s dead, but then it comes back better than ever.

Damn right!
Will be storing the car over the winter in a backyard (with some tarps and all), and Mr Logie will come from Alberta to get it in the spring.
If this plan fails and he is unable to come and get it, then I will be giving it to the Peugeot mechanic or... third option is to DRIFT THE SHIT OUT OF IT.

Is it still driveable, as you could just drive around with a banged-up rear bumper. Around here, people have cars with massive damage, and I’ve seen some that are missing the front end! (still have the hood, side hood panels, and headlights, but the rest is gone).

505turbeaux did it.
He...he couldn’t let anyone else carry the torch for french cars on oppo. He told me so himself. I tried to convince him to come on back then, but he kept saying that is ‘Wasn’t time...but when the time is right, YOU’LL ALL KNOW’?...
Hey, Japanese cars are neat, right? Sure! You like Japanese cars now. Yeah. ...please. Just pick another car nationality, any other one but france. You can’t repair a totaled human body.

He couldn’t legally drive it like that - it wouldn’t pass safety inspection here in Canada (in his case, Ontario). At least, I’m doubting it would, knowing about the accident...
Looking forward to the body swap for you! I hope it won’t be too costly! :)

Thanks! The body swap and all this is free of charge (I know the guy VERY well, both addicted to Peugeot!). He just gets to keep the car in the end, but in return I get a race-ready 505 4 cylinder pushrod sedan.

Yeah I wouldn’t be able to drive this legally, I would get pulled over SOOO QUICK. I will be driving it to Osgoode for storage this weekend probably. If not... well... shit.

Ah! I knew it! 505Turbeaux goddamn you!
Yeah I have a 99 Honda Civic US EX / Canada Si sitting waiting for my OBD1-converted-to-OBD2 engine swap!

We don’t have safety inspections in my state; we only have emissions tests. My Ranger’s rear bumper is pretty dented up from very minor accidents that occurred back when my dad drove it.

If I were you, I would research them. These are immensely under-rated and misunderstood luxury sports sedans with AMAZING driving dynamics, buttery smooth ride quality, and a solid and VERY advanced drivetrain and electronics... some of which are prone to issues. Their only downfalls are electricals (they require a lot of patience and dedication to figure out properly).

That’s awesome! Original owner?
Sorry the 505 is totaled though. Would make a fine drift missile though.

No idea! I know it’s been here since 2009 (that’s when I moved to the area).
It really blows. But things happen for a reason and better things will come along! This car was what INITIATED my Peugeot ownership.

Noice, those are awesome cars if you’ve got the wallet to back it.
What’s next? Any particular cars in mind.

I’m hoping a street-legal race-ready 505 4-cyl so that you can at least cruise with it around your hometown spreading the Peugeot goodness? :)

Electrical seems to be the failing point on most cars.

It’s all relative. People can let go of a car for the smallest of things. All depends on how important a car is to you.

Definitely. Me too! I will be hopping up the engine when I get it, and it will have a 4.11 rear end, 5 speed tranny, limited slip diff.
It’s going to be killer, I will be straight-piping it myself (no emissions testing for cars older than 1988) and kicking some Auto-Cross ass.

Always liked the Phaeton! Admired it since I learned of it in 2006.
Well, my buddy has an 87 190E 2.3 that I might be picking up soon to fix up and flip. Aside from that, I have plans to obtain a 2 liter pushrod inline-4 Peugeot 505 ready to race (stripped out inside, down to the metal), with turbo-model suspension and wheels. It will be a grip-monster.

Shit happens. I loved this car, spent countless hours working to make it good. Just shows the volatility of our lives, the gearhead life.

Zippy told me about the accident last night. That fucking blows, but it’s good to hear you’ve got a deal sorted out. How is the 505 going to make it out to Alberta? Trailer?

Zippy is an awesome guy! It really does... it was unexpected and honestly the thought of this car being totaled was never a thought in my head. Yes it was my daily, but this danger was never present in my head... :(
I am thinking trailer or flatbed for sure. Not gonna drive a car with a weakened structure ;)

I’m gonna pour one out for your 505, my dad had one when I was growing up (505 turbo s intercooled wagon) I loved that car and miss it dearly. I

Thank you! These are awesome machines. They can be a bitch and a half to work on / find parts for / get working properly. It has NEVER left me stranded or broken down on me unless it was for the alternator failing due to a bad oil leak on it from the timing chain cover / Oil Pressure Switch.
A freaking tank. Will be dearly missed!

These cars are preferred in Africa and shows how tough they are (besides the W123). The only bits I have from the 505 are the stock radio, manual dossier, and the anti theft warning (I post it time to time).
